Pre-School
North Star Academy has invested a great deal of time into creating the perfect Pre-School environment. This environment is based on the basic needs of your 3 year old. Our teachers will offer unconditional love, acceptance of all children, security through a consistent schedule, protection from environmental hazards, independence and freedom to do things for themselves, guidance in appropriate behavior, control and limits, and faith. Our teachers are encouraged to plan individual and small-group activities that will meet the specific needs and interests of each child.
There are many more ways for your child to learn than just sitting at a table with a workbook. Three and four year olds are very curious. This expression of curiosity leads to a high level of interest in new subjects and involvement in activities. They use their senses to absorb information about their world. They will begin to participate firsthand in experiences with real objects to allow for learning through doing. We will use repetition so that your child will become a confident and competent learner. They will view demonstrations from their teachers and older peers which leads to language learning and social, emotional and spiritual growth. One of the most important avenues for a child to learn is through playing. This allows young children to learn at their own level of interest and skill. Your child will be motivated to learn more as they find joy in what we do each day.
Pre-School Curriculum
The Wee Learn Curriculum was designed to provide a range of activities
that will meet the needs of your Pre-Schooler at their level of development
along the growth continuum. Each unit will encourage development in
language, reading, writing and math skills that will be built on in years
to come. The unit theme will begin with a Bible story and meaningful
discussion about the topic. By teaching in themes we can more easily
get children involved in learning.

A Second Language
Your child’s vocabulary is continuing to grow. Your pre-schooler
is now capable of carrying on conversations with you and ready to learn
more. To expand his or her knowledge of another language, our Spanish lab will
be offered two times a week. We will expand the basic vocabulary started in
the Early Pre-School class and begin to work with simple sentences. You may
be surprised at how much of a new language they can learn at
such a young age.
Including the Family
A child’s family is the most important part of his or her life. We wish
to include your family in the North Star family. A letter will be sent
home at the end of each unit explaining what we have been working on. It will
also offer activities that you can complete with your child at home so that
they know you are interested in what they are learning. Teachers will complete
developmental assessments of each child to share with you along with the next
steps for moving forward. We will ask that parents complete a progress report
on North Star and your child’s teacher so that we will understand how
you feel your child is progressing emotionally, physically and mentally. Continually
working with parents will allow us to perfect our curriculum and teaching strategies
so that we are offering the best service possible to you and your children.
