North Star Academy is owned and operated by Aaron and Kristy Jones.

We both are at the school each day to ensure your child receives the best childcare possible. As parents with a passion for children, we understand how difficult it is to leave your child every day, but appreciate the need to do so in order to provide a secure life for your family.

We have a very strong belief in God and family, and everything we do is to strengthen our relationship with God first, and then as a family. We feel that we have been called to care for God’s children in all aspects of our life. After the birth of our second child we felt called to become foster parents. This brought two more permanent additions to our family and a continuous desire to foster and help children from difficult places. As a family, we love to travel with our RV around the United States with the hope of visiting all 50 states with our children. God has given us such a beautiful world to explore and show love to.

Between the two of us, we feel we have significant education and experience. We both obtained our undergraduate degrees from Texas A&M University. In addition, Kristy completed her MBA at Southern Methodist University in 2004, while Aaron obtained his MBA from The University of Dallas at the same time. Kristy worked through college to gain four years of teaching experience with several Pre-Schools and has held her Child Care Director's License since March of 2004. 

We hope to become a part of your family, and not just the place where you drop your child off each morning. It is our desire to complement what you teach your child at home, and bear, in part, some of the burdens of parenthood.

Director: Cody Johnston

I have been with North Star since July of 2006. Before the doors even opened, we were here assembling furniture, setting up classrooms, and getting ready to take care of our new students. While completing my degree in Entrepreneurship at UNT I worked as a part-time afternoon teacher in Pre-School, and actually left for a short time for another opportunity. It didn’t take long before I realized that there was no place I would rather be than North Star! Upon returning “home” I came back as a substitute teacher and continued learning and taking on more responsibilities which led to becoming the unofficial office assistant. My next opportunity came in 2008 when our former Assistant Director put in her resignation and I was chosen to take her place. After continuing to learn, grow, and gain experience, I became Director of North Star in January of 2012.

My passion has always been children. I have worked in various positions as an after-school caregiver, nanny, and tutor, but my favorite time before North Star was spent volunteering. The America Reads program works with special needs students and high at risk children, and my heart will always be with the children who have the most to overcome.

My husband, Tyler, and I met each other as babies (we grew up in a small East Texas town) and through the years became best friends. He was my high school sweetheart, and still is. We combined our favorite past-time with our wedding and had a “Camp Out” wedding at Tyler State Park in November of 2009. It was everything we hoped it would be and we topped it off with a two week honeymoon in Brazil. We have two daughters, Azalie born in 2012 and Rosalyn born in 2015. They are our biggest adventure yet!

Assistant Director: Kelly Wooley

My wonderful husband, Kent, and I met in Lubbock while attending Texas Tech University and have been married since 1987. He teaches AP History at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst and loves being able to influence the lives of teenagers. We have been blessed to have two sons: Chris who answered our prayers in 1993; and Connor who made our family complete in 1998. After Chris was born, I opened a home daycare business and cared for children out of my home while my sons were young. It was during this time that I discovered my passion and joy in working with children! When Connor turned four years old and it was time for him to go to Pre-K, I decided to go with him. I closed my business and began working at a Pre-School as Lead Teacher in a three year old class before moving into a management position. 

I joined the North Star family in June of 2008 as Assistant Director and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Working in a supportive Christian environment is the best thing ever! I love that we are able to teach the truth of Jesus and the Bible to our kids, and provide a strong support system for our families and teachers.

Office Assistant: Margaret Ellis

I was born in Shreveport, LA but moved to Dallas, TX when I was three years old. My passion for children and education emerged from my own struggles as a student. I was blessed to attend the Shelton school in Dallas where I was supported and encouraged to find strengths in my learning differences. I now strive to support an early childhood program that identifies learning differences in children and offers alternatives that will lead to individual successes.

I joined the North Star family in the spring of 2011. I started my time here as a floater which gave me the opportunity to spend time in each age group before moving into a full time roll! At that time I moved into a toddler class for a year, then spent two years in Early Preschool, and finally moving up to Pre-Kindergarten where I taught for two years. In June of 2016 I was given the opportunity to move up to the front as the Office Assistant. I have loved every minute of my time here at North Star!

In 2013 I was blessed with the birth of my amazing son Cody. We live in Irving with my soon to be husband Johnathon. In my spare time I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and jogging. I am also very active in my church and am thankful to work in an environment that  supports my Christian walk.
