Infant II
As your baby becomes mobile they can begin to fully explore the world around
them. Our Infant II classroom is designed to offer safe exploration that
encourages development in fine and gross motor skills along with becoming more
familiar with themselves and their emotions. This is the stage when your infant
needs consistency in her schedule and her caregivers. This will be our focus
through the use of routines and new activities.
We will begin to develop routines with:
- Hellos & Goodbyes
- Diapering
- Eating & Mealtimes
- Sleeping & Napping
Mobile infants can participate in new activities:
- Playing with toys
- Enjoying stories and books
- Tasting food
- Having fun with music and movement
- Going outdoors
Through these routines and activities, our infant teachers will guide good behavior, maintain a safe and healthy environment, plan activities that are individualized for each child in their stage of development and evaluate the success of each activity.
A Sign of Communication
As children begin to understand their wants and needs, they may have
a hard time communicating which can lead to frustration and acting out. Children
develop the proper motor skills for sign language long before they have the
verbal capability to speak. Beginning in the Infant II class, our teachers
will use American Sign Language to sign while speaking common words to your
child. This will offer a clear line of communication between teacher and child
so that we can better meet the needs of our wonderful babies. We will encourage
parents to use these same signs at home to develop consistency and to offer
you a way to communicate with your child.
Including the Family
A child’s family is the most important part of his or her life. We wish
to include your family in the North Star family. A letter will be sent home
at the end of each unit explaining what we have been working on. It will also
offer activities that you can complete with your child at home so that they
know you are interested in what they are learning. Teachers will complete developmental
assessments of each child to share with you along with the next steps for moving
forward. We will ask that parents complete a progress report on North Star
and your child’s teacher so that we will understand how you feel your
child is progressing emotionally, physically and mentally. Continually working
with parents will allow us to perfect our curriculum and teaching strategies
so that we are offering the best service possible to you and your children.
